Community Groups are where Christ Community Church members and friends learn and put into practice the greatest commandment, to "love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind" and to "love your neighbor as yourself" (Luke 10:27).

They provide a time of fellowship outside of the weekly worship service and are a place for CCC members and friends to explore spiritual truth and grow in their faith. Community Groups are the nerve center for spiritual nurture and care at Christ Community Church. The groups are relationally driven, not curriculum driven, and are always open to new visitors. Each person in a group is encouraged to reach out to friends, neighbors and co-workers and invite them to attend their Community Group.

When and where do Community Groups meet?

Groups meet once a week with the exception of the first week of the month. (That week is set aside for ongoing leadership training.) The time and day will vary according to each groups needs. Click here to find out the current meeting schedules for our 2008 Fall Community Groups. The groups are mostly geographically based to make travel time minimal. You are encouraged to find a group that fits your schedule and relational needs.

What goes on at a Community Group?

Each week there will be a large group time that provides an opportunity for fellowship, sharing , prayer, equipping, accountability, outreach and building relationships. This is an informal time for getting to know one another and is primarily designed for adults to have mutual spiritual encouragement. Anyone college age or above is encouraged to attend. Sometimes there will be a break-out time for men and women to have prayer, sharing and accountability with one another.

Who will lead the group?

Leaders at each host home will be equipped and coached to effectively lead their group. A list of leaders and meeting times can be found here.

What about childcare?

Childcare is provided at most Community Groups. However, since we do not have a central facility, we must be flexible and creative in providing care for our children. The host home and leader of the group will oversee providing for the particular needs of their group. Variations on childcare include having paid childcare and spreading the expense among parents or using parents within the group to rotate through a schedule of childcare. The general desire is to not burden a family to get their own childcare weekly, nor to have parents baby-sit the group's kids every week. The leader will work toward finding a good balance and accommodations to meet the particular group's needs. Once a month the groups will each have a fellowship meal where the entire evening is open to build relationships over dinner. Children are encouraged to participate in the meal along with their parents. Special needs for childcare need to be mentioned to the community group leader.
