Baptism Transparent

Dear Baptized Ones,

This Sunday we will have the privilege of participating in the baptism of Titus Smith. This will give us the opportunity not only to witness the precious and very great promises God has made to Titus and to his parents, Timothy and Calli, but also to see in a tangible way the reality of our own salvation in Jesus Christ. We are a people who have been washed and made clean of our sin; we are a people who have been given a name and an inheritance in Christ by our Triune God; we are a people who together have been made a family and a kingdom of priests for God’s glory, our joy, and the life of the world.

So, it will be a great joy to see Titus receive this sign and seal of the covenant of grace. It will testify to the full and rich blessings promised to all who call upon God for salvation by faith alone through Christ alone. This baptism will not save Titus. But it will serve as a mark and reminder to him of the extraordinary privilege it is to be born and raised among God’s people. It will spur him on to know the Lord who loves him, and to one day make public profession of his faith in Christ.

As we prepare to celebrate with Titus and his parents this Sunday, let’s ponder together the wonder that we have been given a place in the family of God. This is a society that is under the special care of our Heavenly Father, the special affection of our bridegroom, Jesus, and the special empowerment of our helper, the Holy Spirit. Are we cultivating a growing joy in this fact? Let’s ask the Lord to help us to do so as we prepare for Sunday.

In Christ,
Robby
