Communion Letter: January 18th

Communion Transparent

Dear Family at Christ Community,

Our journey in Ecclesiastes begins this Sunday in 1:1-3. Given the paradoxical gravity and elusive nature of the book’s contents, we will benefit from spiritual nourishment as we embark on this quest. We will seek this nourishment from the Lord’s Table as part of our worship service. Please remember that Jesus invites us to come to His table to commune with Him in His finished work as the “Yes!” and “Amen!” to all God’s redemptive promises. David A. Hubbard describes the impact of this in The Preacher’s Commentary, OT Vol. 16: Ecclesiastes / Song of Solomon:

“The three glorious tenses of Christian living are dramatized at the Communion table. There we remember the past’s ultimate exodus, Christ’s shed blood and broken body; there we wait for the future’s ultimate innovation, Christ’s victorious return; there we pledge ourselves to the present’s ultimate privilege, demonstrating Christ’s love to all with whom we have to do. Futile days and futile weeks we may have, where life loses its glue and turns leaky at the seams. But a futile life will not be our lot: Christ’s news is too good to let that happen. Life is filled with meaning because He is making all things new—beginning with us.”

As ambassadors of Christ’s reconciliation, we get to live meaningful lives of eternal significance because of His finished work! Yes, we will have MANY difficult questions with no satisfactory answers in this life; we will struggle with and suffer the elusive futility of MANY (if not all) of our efforts before we die. However, we can faithfully go on in the Holy Spirit’s power as our lives are securely hidden in Christ to be revealed when He returns in glory! Please come prepared to eat and drink to that glorious end!

In Christ,
Cameron
