Communion Letter: September 19th
Dear Family at Christ Community,
We will celebrate the Lord’s Table together as part of our worship in Romans 4:13-15 on Sunday. Jesus, as gracious host, invites each of us to taste and see that the Lord is good through faith in His finished work! Though we bring nothing to warrant our place at the table, Christ eternally assures our welcome as signified in the bread and cup. We come to the table not because we have to in order justify God’s love for us; we come because we get to once again witness God’s love declared in Christ’s body and blood given for the forgiveness of our sins and resurrection to newness of life. To the Lord’s Table, we come with empty hands for our faiths to be nourished in the Spirit to the glory of God. As Francis A. Schaeffer writes in The Finished Work of Christ: The Truth of Romans 1-8:
We must be so careful never to let faith become a work. Faith has no value in and of itself. Faith is the act whereby you raise your empty hands, believe God’s promise, and accept the finished work of Jesus Christ on your behalf, whereupon God declares you justified.
Please prepare to come to the table at the hospitable invitation of the Lord of hosts! Come expecting your faith to be nourished in Christ as a gift of God’s lavish grace!
