Dear Baptized Ones,

This coming Sunday we have the joyous opportunity to celebrate God’s promised love in Christ through Becca Lapcevic’s baptism. She confessed within the last year or so that she is saved in Christ alone by faith alone through God’s grace alone. Her baptism will signify and seal outwardly what has become for her an eternal inward reality through the transformation of her heart!

Becca’s mode of baptism will be pouring which signifies the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon her as a gift through her redemption in Christ. As Sinclair Ferguson observes in The Holy Spirit:

Baptism with the Spirit inaugurates us into the life of union with Christ. Baptism with water marks this outwardly: ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit’ (Acts 2:38). Here repentance, water baptism, the forgiveness of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit are seen as correlative aspects of the one reality of entrance into Christ, and thus into (the fellowship of) the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Mt. 28:19).

She now walks in union with Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit with access to all of the heavenly blessings as a result of the Father’s love. We, as baptized ones, should take this time to reflect on our own transformation of heart and life in Christ and how our past baptism as a means of grace reflects these realities to us so as to improve upon these things.

Pray for the Holy Spirit to restore to you the joy of your salvation! Seek to be encouraged and encourage others in the redemptive truths represented in baptism. Build others up and edify each other as baptized ones so that the world will know who we really are in Christ.

In Christ,
Cameron
