The Membership Process
We would encourage you to attend our church regularly for a couple of months before pursuing membership. This will help you have a feel for who we really are and what we are really about as a church. If you are transferring from another church, we will need to speak to the pastor or other leadership before beginning the membership process. We want to be sure that you have left your previous church well before becoming a part of our body.
Our membership process is flexible and relational. It consists of 2 sessions in which we will cover your story, our story, our doctrines and convictions, and our and your membership commitments. You will meet one (or two if you are married and both joining) on one with an elder to cover the material and get your questions answered. We just need to get you the materials and coordinate the meeting time and place. Email Robby Baxter at robby@christcommunitycobb.org to get started!
Below is an outline of the membership process:
- Step 1: Read Exploring CCC: Session 1, and email Cameron at cameron@christcommunitycobb.org with 3 possible meeting times that would work for your schedule. This session should last about 2 hours. This can be over a meal or coffee at your home, somewhere convenient to you, or at the church office.
- Step 2: Read Exploring CCC: Session 2 and fill out the attached Membership Profile. Fill one out for each person joining. Email Robby at robby@christcommunitycobb.org with 3 possible meeting times that would work for your schedule. This session should last about 2 hours. This can be over a meal or coffee at your home, somewhere convenient to you, or at the church office. Bring your completed Membership Profile(s) to this meeting.
- Step 3: If there are no major issues that come up in either of the first 2 steps, then we will schedule your membership interview with 2 of the elders. Typically, this will take place on a Sunday morning before worship at 9:30 am. The elders will hear how you came to be a Christian and what God is doing in your life, as well as answer any further questions you might have about the church. The elders will ask you to assent to the five membership questions / vows.
- Step 4: Upon approval by the elders, we will schedule a time for you to be received by the congregation during a Sunday worship service. At this time you will give a public affirmation of your membership vows and one of our elders will pray over you.
