Baptism Letter: November 19th
Dear Family at Christ Community,
We will have the joy of witnessing Sam Wilson’s baptism after we hear from Ruth 2:14-23 on Sunday. Sam will receive baptism by way of profession of faith. As such, he will take his membership vows and then be able to join us when we celebrate the Lord’s Supper on December 3rd. Just as Boaz invited Ruth to feast with him and his servants (Ruth 2:14), so does Jesus invite Sam to receive baptism as the sign and seal of union with Him and then to feast at His Table with His people.
It is fitting that we will get to sing “God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman” during our worship service. Sam’s baptism will signify the abundance of God’s love poured into his heart by the Spirit (Romans 5:5). The poured-out water will also seal to Sam the refreshment and enduring rest that belongs to Him in Christ. In this way, his baptism proclaims true “tidings of comfort and joy”!
As you prepare to hear God’s Word and witness Sam’s baptism, ponder the role other Christians have played in your conversion and growth as a Christian. Consider the ways God uses your baptism to proclaim that you belong at His Table and among His people. While reflecting upon these things, give thanks for Christ’s hospitality so that your heart might be tuned to praise the Lord and celebrate His continued kindness.
Yours in Union with Christ,
Matt
