Communion Letter

communion 2

Dear Family of Christ Community,

This Sunday we will have the opportunity to enjoy the Lord’s Supper together. We will be reminded of the finished work of Jesus the Christ on our behalf redeeming us while we were enemies of God. We will be reminded of the great sacrifice that Jesus offered in his broken body and shed blood so that we would not be defined by our brokenness and failures. We will have our faiths, no matter how weak or fading, nourished by the Spirit’s work in sanctifying us through Christ’s presence and intercession. We will look forward to the return of Jesus when all that is broken will be made whole and new again. Take time to ask the Spirit to examine you revealing any sin for which you are unrepentant or any forgiveness that you are withholding from someone else so that these things can be dealt with before you come to the table. Pray for the fruit of nourishment that is promised in this means of grace.

I pray that this quote from Samuel Bolton in J.C. Ryle’s Holiness would help to encourage and prepare you for Sunday:

“You that can clear this to your own hearts that you have faith, though it be weak, be not discouraged, be not troubled. Consider that the smallest degree of faith is true, is saving faith as well as the greatest. A spark of fire is as true fire as any is in the element of fire. A drop of water is as true water as any is in the ocean. So the least grain of faith is as true faith, and as saving as the greatest faith in the world. The least bud draws sap from the root as well as the greatest bough. So the weakest measure of faith doth as truly ingraft thee into Christ, and by that draw life from Christ, as well as the strongest. The weakest faith hath communion with the merits and blood of Christ as the strongest. The least faith marries the soul to Christ. The weakest faith hath as equal a share in God’s love as the strongest. We are beloved in Christ, and the least measure of faith makes us members of Christ. The least faith hath equal right to the promises as the strongest. And therefore let not our souls be discouraged for weakness.”

Remember that your weakness is but the fertile ground from which the strength of Christ will come in full bloom, drawing you into deeper relationship with God the Father.

In Christ,

Cameron
