Communion Sunday Banner 2021

Dear Family at Christ Community,

This Sunday we will return to the Lord’s Table to be tangibly reminded of what we have been saved from and what we have been saved for. In Christ’s body given and the blood of the New Covenant shed, we are again made aware that we have been set free from the requirements and consequences of the law. Through those same elements, we will be nourished in the power of the Holy Spirit to bear fruit in newness of resurrected life in Christ. The table declares not only what we have been saved from (the burden of the law and its result in death) but what we have been saved for (eternal union with and service to God in Jesus). This helps vivify Paul’s words from Romans 7:1-6 for our nourishment. Charles Hodge captures beautifully this resurrected reality in his Commentary on the Epistle to the Romans:

As far as we are concerned, redemption is in order to holiness. We are delivered from the law, that we may be united to Christ; and we are united to Christ, that we may bring forth fruit unto God….

In preparation for the Lord’s Table, meditate on these words as well as what you have been saved from and what you have been saved for. Come filled with the joy of knowing that death no longer is your shepherd through the broken law! Rejoice in your freedom to serve God for His glory, your joy, and the life of the world!

In Christ,
Cameron
