Dear Family at Christ Community,

We will have the opportunity this Sunday to celebrate the Father’s love for us as beautifully displayed in the Lord’s Table. Through the broken bread, we will witness God’s genuine desire to see us as His children set free from the burdens of shame and guilt so that we could stand before Him in His grace. In the cup overflowing, we will behold Abba’s invitation to walk in newness of life so as to join Him in the redemptive work He is doing in this world. We will come to the table being reminded of God’s great love for us in removing our sin from His view and choosing instead to display His glory through us in union with Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Sinclair B. Ferguson reminds us of this powerful truth in The Whole Christ:

If we come to think of God as one whose total focus is on exposing our sin, we will become too shortsighted to see his grace. We will be plagued by a spirit of doubting and mistrusting the Father of lights, who gives his good gifts to us. We will find that we have become incapable of responding to him (and his law) within the father-child bond of love.

Without this firm indicative foundation, all the rest of life will come to feel like drudgery and burden.

Pray for the Holy Spirit to help you further comprehend what is the breadth and length and height and depth of God’s love for you in Christ! Continue to cultivate the firm indicative foundation of our Father’s devotion to our glorification when Christ returns. Prioritize using the means of grace to grow in your obedience to the imperatives of the Gospel as a reflection of your love for Jesus. Pursue forgiveness with others as much as it depends on you. Come prepared to taste and see that the Lord is good!

In Christ,
Cameron
