In Preparation for Baptism

Dear Baptized Ones,

    We have the blessed opportunity this Sunday to witness the baptism of Kayden Mayne. A particularly beautiful aspect of this baptism is that Jeff and Janet Mayne are adopting Kayden. This story is one of valleys and peaks, longing and satisfaction, and prayers answered “No” and most resoundingly “Yes!” in the provision of Kayden. As a result, the Maynes are proclaiming in having Kayden baptized that he is a gift from God in whose life our Father has already been long at work. They are declaring that Kayden is to be set apart in baptism as a member of the covenant family who is to be raised knowing all that this signifies and seals through the person and work of Jesus so that he may one day walk in union with Christ. They are confessing their own and Kayden’s weakness to save him from sin and death by any other means than the sacrificial death and glorious resurrection of Christ alone applied through the effectual call to faith alone in the power of the Holy Spirit by God’s grace alone. Their (and our) prayer for Kayden is that he could one day declare these words along with the Psalmist from Psalm 71:5-6:

“For You, O Lord, are my hope,

my trust, O Lord, from my youth.

Upon You I have leaned from before my birth;

You are He who took me from my mother’s womb.

My praise is continually of You.”

     Take time to remember your baptism along with your confession of weakness and the declaration of God’s steadfast love and goodness through the provision of Jesus Christ as the means of salvation. Take time to discuss the powerful truths signified and sealed in baptism with your family and friends. Reflect on how you have been and are being sanctified through these baptismal realities at work in your life. Praise God for bringing to bear in your life the sacrificial death and glorious resurrection of Christ alone applied through the effectual call to faith alone in the power of the Holy Spirit by His grace alone!

In Christ,

Cameron
