Dear Baptized Ones,

We have the privilege this Sunday of witnessing the baptisms of Wesley and Brendan Skeen. Both men have professed faith in Jesus Christ alone by faith alone through God’s grace alone. They are pursuing baptism as a sign and seal of their being set apart in Christ to walk in newness of life to the glory of God. This serves as an excellent opportunity for us to reflect upon our own baptism and seek to improve upon its signed and sealed truths in the power of the Holy Spirit. As John Murray writes in Christian Baptism, “…the sign and seal of baptism can be no pledge or guarantee to us of that which baptism signifies except as we are mindful of God’s covenant, embrace its promises, discharge its obligations, and lay hold in faith upon the covenant faithfulness of God.” We can improve upon our baptism by considering how:

1. We are growing in our appreciation of and worship in God’s redemptive covenant
2. We are living and resting in and on the promises of God
3. We are improving in loving the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength and loving our neighbors as ourselves

As you consider these things, let us know how we can serve you in discipleship and equipping for the work of the ministry for which you have been set apart in Christ and gifted by the Spirit as signified and sealed in your baptism.
