Preparation for Communion

To Those Who Live By Faith,

We will celebrate the Lord’s Supper this coming Sunday as those who confess and live out our righteousness in Christ alone by grace alone through faith alone. I encourage this week to reflect on how God’s faithfulness to His covenant promises serves as the firm foundation on which you can live by faith. Particularly remember and give thanks for how this has been true even in the midst of the valleys and the darkness of the shadows that have caused you to question and doubt. If you are currently stuck in a valley, then recognize in faith that the table signifies that God will act in faithfulness to deliver you in His timing. Have your patience and perseverance nourished by the bread and wine as the Spirit lifts you up to Christ who is interceding for you!

Prepare to come this Sunday to celebrate God’s unchanging faithfulness and commitment to the redemption and full reconciliation of His people. In addition, confess and receive the forgiveness that is yours in Christ alone for the ways in which you have been unfaithful to the Lord and His mission. Though you have failed to live by faith as provided by the person and work of Christ and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, seek the nourishment that you need to grow and change in God’s Word made visible. As John Owen writes in Sacramental Discourses:

God never fails nor breaks his promises; so that he hath no need to renew them, but testify them anew: we break and fail in ours; so that we have need actually to renew them. And that is it which we are called unto in this ordinance; which is the ordinance of the great seal of the covenant in the blood of Christ.

May we be reminded and affirmed in our righteousness in Christ alone by God’s grace and faithfulness alone so that we can live by our faith alone in life more abundant in the power of the Holy Spirit!

In Christ,

Cameron
