Dear Family at Christ Community,

    This Sunday we will hear from Colossians 2:8-15 and partake of the Lord’s Table. The bread and the cup signify and seal upon our hearts the fact that we have been filled in Christ. We were once dead, unclean, and outside God’s fellowship. But in Jesus, God has made us alive, clean,
and brought us near to Him. The elements of the Table help us to stand firm in this truth, forsaking all things, all philosophies, and all traditions which dare to suggest that Jesus is not
enough.

    By eating the broken bread, we remember and are strengthened by the sufficiency of Jesus’s death to cancel the record of debt that stood against us. By drinking the poured-out cup, we
remember and are strengthened by Jesus’s supremacy over all power and authority as the New Covenant head over His people. Through these means the Spirit helps us to be filled with Jesus; to persevere in faith in Him alone and not in our own wisdom or strength. In a similar way, David, in Psalm 37, exhorts us to remain steadfast in God’s deliverance of His people:

Commit your way to the Lord;
    trust in him, and he will act.
He will bring forth your righteousness as the light,
    and your justice as the noonday.

Will we commit our way to the Lord, and trust in Him alone to make us righteous and justified in His sight? Then let us approach the Table this Sunday as people who have cast aside every pretense that we can add anything to the work of Jesus for us. Let us come eager and longing to
be filled with Jesus so that more and more we may be like Him. Let us stir up thankfulness in our hearts by meditating on the wonderful fact that we are not required to bring anything to Him, instead He invites us to feast on Him as the all-sufficient and all-supreme Savior. He has disarmed all power and authority that once accused us, and there is nothing in all creation that can separate us from His love.

In Christ,
Robby
