Communion Letter: September 17th
Dear Family at Christ Community,
On Sunday, we will be in Matthew 26:26-30 where Jesus institutes the Lord’s Supper. Cornelis P. Venema captures the heart of the Supper in Children at the Lord’s Table? Assessing the Case for Paedocommunion:
“The (Lord’s Table), which as a visible sign of an invisible grace confirms and strengthens faith in the promises of the gospel, also evokes thanksgiving by assuring believers of their participation in Christ and His saving work. To use the language of the confessions, as assuredly as believers take the bread and the wine from the hand of Christ’s ministers, so assuredly may they believe that Christ’s work was for them. Indeed, it was for this reason that the Lord graciously and mercifully appointed the sacrament. Knowing the weakness and uncertainty that often characterize the faith of believers, the Lord instituted this sacramental meal as a visible representation of His work on their behalf. Lest the gospel promise, first announced through the preaching of the Word, be doubted, God has graciously condescended to our weakness in appointing this means to aid our faith.”
Please take time to consider Jesus’s and Venema’s words as we will come to the Table as part of our worship. Give thanks for the forgiveness of your sins past, present, and future. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you walk in resurrected newness of life for God’s glory, our joy, and the life of the world.
In Christ,
Cameron
