Communion Letter: August 14th
Dear Family at CCC,
This Sunday we will have the opportunity to partake of the Lord’s Table. Our series in Romans has lately taken us deeper into the great truth that God’s sovereignty in the salvation of His people is the church’s firm foundation for mission to a lost and broken world. The Lord’s Table visibly teaches us this truth in the broken bread and poured-out cup, reminding us that our entire redemption consists in the work that Jesus has accomplished for us. We have received it, not because we were deserving, or because of anything inherent to ourselves, but because He loves us. What hope this gives us for those we long to see come to a saving knowledge of Jesus and His love!
Commenting on Romans 10:5-13, John Stott reminds us how Scripture negates the human distinctions that we can often allow to cloud our view of the Gospel and the hope that it brings:
“It is a marvelous affirmation that through Christ there is no distinction between Jew and Gentile…Just as there is no distinction between us because in Adam we are all sinners (3:22f.), so now there is no distinction between us because in Christ, who is Lord of all, all who call on him are richly blessed. Far from impoverishing us, we all receive his ‘unsearchable riches.’”
Prepare for the Table this Sunday by meditating on how it teaches us to humbly receive the unsearchable riches of Christ by grace alone through faith alone. Ask the Spirit to use this means of grace to grow in you a deeper hope and prayerful longing for those in your spheres of influence who do not know Christ. May the Lord instill in us an abiding confidence in His mighty power to save so that we will not grow weary in doing good for the life of the world!
In Christ,
Robby
