The First Heavenly Interlude

December 8, 2019 Preacher: Chris Blackman Series: Advent & Easter: (Part 1) The Victorious Comings of Christ in John's Revelation

Scripture: Revelation 4:1–11

Key Truth: The sovereignty of our Heavenly Father over all creation should produce in us ceaseless worship which will sustain the church as we wait for Jesus to return.

Introduction:

Q: What do you think the heavenly throne room of God looks like? Does it inspire awe or dread?

Ceaseless Worship of our Heavenly Father who is at the Center of all Creation

Revelation 4:1-8

"The throne represents the power and rule of God. By emphasizing the throne, John is pulling back the curtain and showing his reader the true locus of the world's power."

- Mitchell G. Reddish, Revelation

Q: Why does Jesus want his church to see a glimpse of God on his throne?

Worship as an Act of Resistance Against the Evil of this World

Revelation 4:9-11

"John is being reminded that God is in control. The church may be languishing. Satan may be doing his worst; but God is reigning on high."

Derek Thomas, Let's Study Revelation

Application:

Revelation 4:1-11 teaches us that:

-Our Heavenly Father reigns over all creation and is worthy of worship which is God’s appointed means of perseverance until he returns.
